Sudbury-based runner Daniel Salter and his local employer TGA Mobility, have donated a new StrongBack wheelchair to Colchester’s J’s Hospice for enhanced care of disabled locals this Christmas and beyond. When Daniel Salter, 30 from Foxearth signed up for The J’s Hospice Chelmsford Marathon in October, he decided that he wanted to do something special for the charity. The J’s Hospice improves the lives of young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families across Essex. Daniel is a Mobility Consultant for TGA, the UK-leading mobility scooter and product specialist, and so, instead of collecting sponsorship, he asked his employer to donate a new StrongBack wheelchair to the charity. TGA’s lightweight and ergonomic StrongBack is a pioneering new folding wheelchair design with a contoured backrest for better lumbar support and greater comfort. It helps carers push their clients more easily and without the worry of back strain when lifting it into a car boot so Daniel felt it would be the ideal wheelchair to help the charity to care for its young adult patients. He explained: “Even though the StrongBack was only launched this year it has been hugely popular across the UK as it sets new standards in postural support and healthier sitting.” TGA kindly agreed with one condition: Daniel had to complete the marathon within 4½ hours. As this was Daniel’s first ever marathon, this was going to be a challenge but, despite stopping during the race to help a young female entrant who was ill, he completed the marathon in an impressive 4 hours 12 minutes. TVs Penny Smith presents TGA with prestigious design award for folding Minimo Plus mobility scooter12/8/2016 The latest folding Minimo Plus mobility scooter from TGA has won the acclaimed BHTA Independent Living Design Award 2016 – presented by TV’s Penny Smith at the recent British Healthcare Trades Associations (BHTA) Awards dinner in London.
TGA has been a trusted specialist in mobility scooters across the UK since 1981. It provides the most comprehensive range of quality and reliable scooters with models such as the BBC Top Gear winning Breeze S4, cutting-edge Vita range and the popular compact Minimo ‘car boot’ concept. Its latest folding Minimo Plus was entered into the BHTA Independent Living Design Awards which is now in its 21st year of being the flagship award for healthcare industry innovation. The eminent experts on the judging panel decided the TGA Minimo Plus mobility scooter excelled in the following critera:
Despite living with restricted mobility, Marion Fletcher from mid-Wales, continues to enjoy independence and producing art with her Chihuahuas thanks to a cult-classic Supersport mobility scooter.
Marion lives with her musician partner and teenage son and since becoming disabled, enjoys all kinds of art including painting, sculpture and photography with an interest in landscapes and Portraiture. Marion has lived with Multiple Sclerosis since the late eighties however this has not stopped her raising money for charities. She has abseiled in aid of Arthritis UK and tackled the longest and fastest zip wire in Europe for M.S. Cymru. Away from her charity challenges Marion has remained independent and able to continue exercising her two charming Chihuahuas thanks to a TGA ‘Harley Davidson’ style mobility scooter. This black and chrome 3-wheel Supersport resembles more of a motorbike than a traditional mobility vehicle. It has all the power and performance to tackle the many hills and off-road trails in surrounding Wales. With this freedom Marion can continue to find inspiration from the outside world. Marion’s 4-legged riding companions, her two Chihuahuas Roxy and her daughter Libby, travel everywhere with her in a customized basket on the rear of the Supersport. As Marion cannot walk, her 8mph TGA scooter provides freedom to access the local park where on arrival Roxy and Libby can jump off and enjoy running around chasing squirrels. Marion says: I would truly be lost without my Supersport, which I call my Harley! It’s given me a kind of celebrity status locally as everyone remembers my scooter and my two dogs. My basket keeps my Chihuahuas safe and sound and means I can still give them the time they need in the park. I also take my Supersport on holiday in the back of our van with our most recent trip to Aberdyfi. Even though we live at the top of a very steep hill, I can still get out for artistic inspiration thanks to my Supersport, which is capable of tackling the slope without trouble. I love my Supersport as it enables me to continue with photography and painting my landscapes.” Marion’s latest performing arts venture ‘Talkchestra’ is a comedy style show with music that is produced without instruments. She and her fellow disabled performers produce compositions using only verbal sounds and hope after their forthcoming debut gigs, to appear at a future Edinburgh festival. couple attend Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace with new folding TGA Maximo mobility scooter.12/2/2016 Despite living with restricted mobility, Rachel Gibson-Leigh from Brighton, continues to enhance her freedom after attending a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on a new folding TGA Maximo mobility scooter.
Before taking early retirement due to severe Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Rachel worked in publishing and was an accomplished book and graphic designer. She now lives with her wife, Debbie, who has recently retired from public service as a long standing civil servant. Debbie now cares for Rachel and with the help of two new folding mobility scooters, a TGA Minimo Plus and Maximo, they can both still enjoy accessing Brighton – especially The Lanes, Seafront and new i360. They also enjoy days out in the car with freedom on arrival at scenic locations such as Arundel Castle, the South Downs and Chichester. The compact Minimo is the best-selling folding car boot scooter from TGA and the Maximo is a larger 4-wheel version. The Minimo is lightweight and easy to lift into the car boot whilst the more spacious Maximo provides enhanced comfort, stability and support. Both scooters fold into a compact shape which is essential for Rachel and Debbie as they live in a first floor flat where storage space is limited. The catalyst behind ownership of these two scooters was Debbie’s invitation to the Buckingham Palace Royal Garden Party – in recognition of her service to the nation. As Rachel cannot walk far, being able to accompany Debbie would not have been possible without the assistance of a mobility scooter. Rachel explains: “Following our invitation to the Palace we could see very early on that there would be a great deal of standing and walking involved. This is something I find very difficult now. Therefore, we decided that a mobility scooter would be the perfect solution. At the time I was about 20 stone in weight so couldn’t make use of the lightweight machines. We also live in a flat serviced by an old Victorian lift so the scooter had to fold. It soon became obvious that the TGA Maximo was the scooter for me. The TGA Assessor, Shaun Finch, brought one to the flat and after a good test drive I bought it there and then. I called her Boudicca, because she represents freedom and liberty for me. I also own a lightweight Minimo Plus now as I have lost weight.” Read more..... |
