78 year old Sue Raymond has discovered a 'new lease of life' since discovering her TGA 'Harley Davidson' style mobility scooter. Sue has always been a fan of the outdoors, and before retiring she was a milkmaid in the farming sector in Surrey. However, following the birth of her three children she gradually started to develop mobility issues. Still keen to live the outdoor life Sue joined the Disabled Ramblers Association, but found that her mobility scooter at that time struggled with the tight manoeuvering and rocky, off-road tracks. Alan 55, and Joan Preston 77, both from Kinmel Bay near Rhyl, North Wales, have regained their independence thanks to two new TGA Breeze S4 mobility scooters.
Their Breeze S4 scooters are the same as the model which won the BBC Top Gear extreme mobility scooter challenge, and that has recently been accredited with a new World Record for: "The Greatest distance covered in 24 hours by a mobility scooter." Completed by Steve Tarrant at Goodwood Motor Circuit in May earlier this year, a TGA Breeze recorded a distance of over 190 miles and delivered 100% reliability whilst running on purposely-punctured tyres to demonstrate the effectiveness of our revolutionary sealant system. This proven robustness and performance appealed to Alan and Joan who both live with severe Arthritis and mobility issues, and without their trusted mobility scooters, they would not be able to access the outdoors safely and with peace of mind. Alan was a greatly accomplished furniture maker for the leading brand Ercol, who unfortunately had to take early retirement after 35 years of service due to ill health. He was a leading craftsman at the business in Buckinghamshire until the affects of Arthritis in his spine became too much for him to continue working. Alan found ending his career tremendously hard however he decided with his wife, to make a fresh start by moving away from Aylesbury and beginning a new life on the coast. They finally settled in Kinmel Bay several years ago however freedom outdoors was becoming ever more difficult without the assistance of a mobility scooter. Alan has chronic back problems and uses a wheelchair indoors to move around and his wife, who cares for him, also has Arthritis that severely limits her walking. The selection of two Breezes, one through the Motablity scheme and the other direct from TGA, have improved the Preston's quality of life and wellbeing significantly. Albert was originally born in Buckie on the Moray Firth coast of Scotland and before retirement, he was an active member of the local community whilst working as a highly skilled weaver. He worked for 20 years at the renowned Johnstons of Elgin Woollen Mill that was established in the late 18th century. Albert was responsible for producing the highest grade, tartans, tweeds and cashmere fabrics for discerning clients all over the world. During his time at the mill, he accurately manufactured materials for businesses such as Caledonian Airways and even pure cashmere fabrics, with interwoven silks, for middle-eastern Sheiks. These bespoke designs required Albert and 200 other specialists to weave with utmost accuracy, as cashmere is so expensive and the Johnston brand had such a leading reputation worldwide. Following Albert's decision to take early retirement from weaving, he spent time as a local gardener however his health began to deteriorate due to diabetes. Today, he lives with restricted mobility and an intense programme of medication to keep his condition stable. Life in his sheltered accommodation was becoming increasingly restrictive until he discovered a new all-weather, Breeze Midi 4 mobility scooter from TGA. His house-bound life and wellbeing have now been dramatically improved as Albert can access the local town, clinic and countryside with peace of mind. Regarding his scooter Albert said: "My life can be quite difficult these days as I have 29 pills to take each morning however my TGA scooter has made such an amazing difference to my life. I've just recovered from having severely ulcerated legs and a period in Aberdeen hospital, however I'm feeling so much better, especially as I can now enjoy the fresh air. I drive my TGA Breeze to the local leg clinic and when the sun is shining, I can be outside most of the day as its battery range is so good. I can even have my lunch at the local hotel which makes a nice change and the all-weather canopy lets me go outside even when it's raining." Albert concluded: "I will never forget my many enjoyable years weaving and creating such beautiful cashmere materials as I'm passionate about Scottish tradition. It's great I can still relive these days when out and about on my Breeze as I now regularly bump into old colleagues when driving around. I'd like to thank Harry Reed from TGA for making such a difference to my life." |
