“My name is Chris Gordon. I am 23 years old and I Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Regardless of my disability, I have achieved so many of my personal goals and aspirations. My passion is sport, after I passed my GCSE’s I went on to Haybridge 6th Form where I did a BTEC National in Sport Development and Coaching and an A Level in Business Management. From there I went on to study at Worcester University, studying a HND in Sports Coaching, followed by a BA Hons. Degree in Sports Business Management, achieving a 2:1. In 2009, I learnt to drive in my Sirus Volkswagen Caddy. The conversion enables me to drive from my wheelchair, it also has bespoke driving adaptations designed specifically for my requirements, based on my strength and ability. My Sirus car has given me the freedom and independence to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. Previous to my Sirus car, I had to rely on family members or taxis, which wasn’t ideal when I lead such a busy life! My Sirus car has helped me to achieve so much; I have passed my degree, and currently I work at The Albion Foundation where I mentor a year six student who has a similar disability to mine, as well as coaching Wheelchair Football. I have played wheelchair football for the Albion Foundation for over seven years, and in 2011 I was selected for England’s Wheelchair Football team, which was a huge accolade for me. Having my Sirus car has enabled me to drive to and from training, plus matches all over the UK. To achieve everything you want in life is possible, with the hard work, determination, and will power; you can do whatever you want... just keep striving for your ultimate goals and never give up”.
